MotoGP: Bagnaia wins Spanish GP in Jerez, World Championship leader

Francesco Bagnaia returned to the track in Jerez de la Frontera, sweeping away the mistakes of his past two Grands Prix with a 2nd place in the Sprint Race in the Spanish GP. A weekend in crescendo, which brought the World Champion back to the top of the rankings with a total of 87 points and a margin of 22 lengths on Marco Bezzecchi, the first of the pursuers.

Andalusia wasn’t a happy place for the Mooney VR46 rider, who takes home only one point on the track named after Angel Nieto, therefore, losing his leadership position in the Championship. Unlucky since Friday, the Bez managed to snatch a 9th place in the comeback after the incident at the start of Saturday’s race, but he then fell in Sunday’s race, ending his series of misfortunes on Spanish soil.

Instead, Brad Binder relaunched himself with a KTM, climbing six positions in the 4th round of the year and reaching third place in the standings, just three lengths away from Bezzecchi and is followed by his teammate, Jack Miller, who’s 4th with 49 points and a length advantage over the Maverick Viñales, Luca Marini, and Jorge Martin trio.

The situation of the Japanese constructor is still grim, with Honda clinging to Alex Rins, who dropped to 8th place in the Rider’s standings, and Yamaha occupying 11th and 12th places with Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli, 47 and 53 points from the top, respectively.
