Farewell to Guido Zucchi, a Master among Sports Photographers

Guido Zucchi, one of the most esteemed sports photographers of his generation, has passed away at the age of 82. A native of Bologna, he was the leading photographer for Guerin Sportivo during the era directed by Italo Cucci, capturing the most significant international events with his shots.

Among the images that made him famous is the one of Italy's victory at the 1982 World Cup, featuring Dino Zoff's hands on the World Cup surrounded by those of his teammates, a photograph that earned him the award for the tournament's best shot. Also historic is the famous photo capturing Diego Maradona and Pelé together, two legends rarely willing to share the spotlight.

After retirement, he continued to work as a freelance, following the Motomondiale, never abandoning his great passion for photography.

Throughout his career, he also followed Ferrari and collaborated with the historic Studio Villani, led by the great Franco, who was for a long time the photographer of choice for Motosprint, making him one of the most recognized faces in Italian sports photography.

Guido Zucchi leaves behind his wife Ombretta, his children Daniela and Roberto, and three grandchildren. The final farewell will take place on Monday morning at the Hospice of Bentivoglio.
