MotoGP: Paolo Simoncelli as torch-bearer: "Very emotional. I think it's a tribute to Marco."

As we rapidly approach the start of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, scheduled to begin on February 6th, the journey of the torch, emblem of the Games and brotherhood, continues unabated.

On Monday, it made the journey from Ancona to Rimini, and the torch-bearers involved in carrying it included a certain Paolo Simoncelli, who was grateful for a one of a kind opportunity he certainly couldn't have expected.

"I won't hide the fact that this makes me very emotional. I am very thankful for the invitation, because I think it's a tribute to my son Marco. I hope he's watching us and is satisfied," he said, as reported on the official Instagram page of the sports event.

Speaking about the value he places on the Games, the Sic58 Squadra Corse owner said, "I give a huge importance to the Olympics because they should be a sign of peace and a reunion for all peoples. Maybe they'll help make people think."

"They're fundamental for me. Maybe less for in youth, because we had next to nothing, because we were thinking more about building a future. However, after Marco was born, I think I've demonstrated how important they are for our family," he reiterated the concept.

And, regrading the importance of his loved ones in this historic walk, the manager from Romagna stated, "I dedicate this moment to my son and my family. To my daughter Martina and my wife. To us. But if anyone would like to join us, please come along!"
