Acosta: "I've learned to be like bamboo, but I got the tires wrong today."

"I got my hopes up seeing the sun. As soon as the clouds came, I struggled with the hard front, but the reality is that we're far behind Ducati. Could Viñales have gotten on the podium? Not necessarily."

MotoGP: Acosta: "I've learned to be like bamboo, but I got the tires wrong today."

Pedro Acosta came in 9th at the finish line, but the result he brought home from Mugello didn't satisfy him at all. Even if the Spanish rider was the most incisive for KTM, he once again expressed his desire to fight for the top positions that count. A desire that, for now, has to reckon with the limits of a bike that's still irregular and not fast enough to go up against the Desmosedicis.

"It was a complicated Sunday. The reality is that we're far off. Everything seemed to be going well when it was sunny but, as soon as the clouds came, we got into trouble. Was Viñales fighting for the podium when he fell? It was still a long way to the end, so we don't know how it would've really gone. To draw conclusions, a race has to be completed. Ducati is a step or two ahead in terms of speed on the straights," he said, disappointedly.

This kind of situation requires a particular attitude. "You have to be like bamboo, tough but flexible to adapt to any situation. Now we'll be going to Assen, and the hard tire should help us. Here, we made the wrong tire choice, thta's true, but we got twenty seconds from the first," he explained.

The Shark was the only one to opt for the hard compound on the front. A risk that didn't particularly pay off, despite being the best of the KTMs. "I chose on the basis that it would've been  cooler than yesterday. Then I saw that Binder was able to get more angle than me and rode better, and I knew I was wrong. Brad says I should change my riding style? From Le Mans till today, I was the best with the RC16. He rides differently than me. I was much cleaner and went back to a more aggressive approach. Thank God this bike has a good engine and, in the end, I was able to overtake him several times, and he did the same with me," he concluded.
