As previously announced, Miguel Oliveira won't be able to race in Austin. During the Sprint in the Argentine Grand Prix, the Portuguese rider injured his left sternoclavicular joint in an accident and will miss the upcoming round in Texas. Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez will be taking Oliveira's place in his first race appearance riding the Pramac team's M1.
"First of all, I want to thank the team and the doctors who treated me," Oliveira said. "After returning home, I had an MRI that revealed a dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint with a ligament rupture. Obviously, we discussed the quickest recovery options and decided to keep the arm immobilized. My return time is unpredictable, because we have to wait for my body's biological response. We'll assess the situation, week by week. We're working to get back on the track as soon as possible, but we'll mostly focus on my recovery and getting back to being one hundred percent fit."
Augusto Fernandez said: "First of all, I want to send Miguel my best wishes for a speedy recovery. I hope he'll be able to come back soon. I also want to thank Yamaha and Pramac for this opportunity. Austin is a fantastic track, and I can't wait to get back on the M1. I'm looking forward to the race weekend."
Team Director Gino Borsoi added: "I feel really bad for Miguel's injury, especially at a time of the season when he was getting more confident with his YZR-M1 and the team. Unfortunately, luck hasn't been much on his side in recent years but, knowing him, I'm sure he'll react like the true fighter he is and come back as strong and motivated as before. The most important thing right now is that he receives the best care possible and will get back on the track as soon as possible. As for Augusto, welcome to our team. Despite the short notice, I'm sure we'll be able to do a great job together, with the entire Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP team ready to support him at any time."
