In spite of his detractors and an unruliness that continues to characterize him as is clear from his propensity for crashes and falls, Marc Marquez continues to be a major player in MotoGP and, even in the challenge that has seen him move from Honda to Ducati's Team Gresini accepting to ride a 2023 bike, he has been able to showboat and emerge. Currently third in the overall standings with 356 points, next year the Spaniard will switch to the factory team, giving life with Bagnaia to a lineup that for many is destined to implode.
On this matter, questioned by La Gazzetta dello Sport in the context of the Festival of Sport, Jorge Lorenzo expressed his conviction that initially the coexistence will be peaceful. "For several reasons they will start on equal terms and the eight-time world champion, now knowing more about the bike and being in the factory team will be called upon to be competitive immediately," he stated
Despite the various mistakes he still makes, for the Majorcan, the rider from Cervera has made big strides especially from a human point of view. "Personally, when he arrived in the premier class I did not accept his way of racing. Now instead he shows more respect, also because the rules are stricter than ten years ago."
"Since 2020 he has had a lot of bad luck from a physical standpoint. Without those difficulties he would have won at least two or three more World Championships," he then said confidently.
Staying with his mind in Borgo Panigale but with a thought about himself and his tribulated experience riding the Desmosedici in 2017 and 2018, the 37-year-old instead admitted, "I'm disappointed I didn't win with the Italian brand. Had I stayed a couple more championships I would have done it."
