MotoGP, Franco Morbidelli: "Me in SBK? People enjoy teasing me"

"I'm already working on my future and I'd like to stay at Yamaha. They worked in Japan during the break, but we'll have to wait to find out what they'll bring and when"

MotoGP: Franco Morbidelli:

Sometimes, taking a break can help. That's what Franco Morbidelli hopes, as he arrives at Mugello trying to find a way to turn his season around. Not an easy feat, considering the state of form of Yamaha, currently propping up the rear in the current MotoGP scene.

“These were weeks in which it was important to have a period of re-oxygenation after the first tour de force and then to get back on guard for the next one - said Franco - We'll see if there are any improvements or if we'll still have to push a lot. The situation, as regards my feelings with the bike, has improved a lot, but we still can't be where we would like. We thought about how to refine our working method and how to improve what we have at the moment".

Quartararo said that at Mugello, where there is no acceleration from low speed, the Yamaha should suffer less than, for example, at Le Mans.

“I will wait to hit the track and see. 5 races have gone by and we have seen that... being optimistic is always positive (laughs). I'm glad to hear Fabio so optimistic."

Do you think in Japan they have been working in this break?

“They certainly did. We know where to improve and what we are missing, but we also know that in Japan they are very precise. To know what and when they will bring it, we will have to wait a little longer".

Last weekend you went to Misano to see SBK, everyone immediately said you were there to find a place. How do you explain that?

“They said this partly because a place has opened up in the Yamaha team, Toprak will leave, and partly because people enjoy teasing me. I haven't gone very fast in recent years and journalists like asking me if I'll go to SBK".

When will you decide your future?

“We are working, we still need to understand exactly which path to take. I've always said that I have great affection for Yamaha and for the team I'm in. I've done practically my entire MotoGP career with Yamaha, even though I haven't been able to get good results since I joined the factory team. I want to succeed with this team, I think both I and they deserve it. There is a lot of work to do, we are talking to go in the best possible direction".
