Valentino Rossi was really emotional at Misano as he gave his last farewell to his Italian fans. It’s now time to leave for the last two races of his career. The first stop will be in Portimão this weekend, then the grand finale in Valencia.
On the Portuguese track in April, the Doctor didn’t finish the race due to a fall while he was in the points zone. Reassured by a 10th place in Misano, Valentino wants to continue on the same path.
“Portimão is a difficult track and has some very special characteristics that other circuits don’t,” Rossi said. “The first of our two races this year weren’t that bad for us. I was able to follow my path to be in the top ten. Unfortunately, I fell. The goal this weekend is to try to have a good race and win the first ones. I had a good feeling in the first GP, especially on Sunday, so I hope I can be competitive and repeat a great result like in Misano.”
If Valentino’s adventure with Yamaha is about to end, Dovizioso’s is just beginning. Andrea left Misano with a bad taste in his mouth, and now he’ll have to ride his M1 on a track that’s new to him.
“It’s a very special circuit and I don’t really know what it’ll be like with Yamaha, especially since I’m still learning,” Dovi explained. “I’m really interested in seeing if we can be more competitive in Portimão, because I didn’t get the chance to be competitive in Misano with the changing track conditions. I hope to move forward because it’s difficult to fight right now. I also hope to find good conditions in free practice, because we need it to keep making progress and more laps on the bike.”
