MotoGP, Quartararo bitter and disappointed with ninth place finish in home race

"I was thinking about the World Championship in every moment. It was the first time in the wet and I finished ahead of Mir. I'm happy for Marquez, Pol and Petrucci ... who finished ahead of Dovizioso"

MotoGP: Quartararo bitter and disappointed with ninth place finish in home race

In front of the home crowd, Fabio Quartararo was the favourite for the win on the day before the race. The Frenchman had been dreaming about success at home for some time, but instead he had to console himself with a ninth place that left a lot of bitterness and disappointment.

The only satisfaction was that he came home ahead of Joan Mir, his closest rival in the title fight. Apparently the wet really put Fabio to the test.

“I had better sensations in the dry - the Frenchman began - among other things, before the race I was worried, because I didn't know what to expect in these conditions, since I was out on track with a set-up I had never used during the weekend. In the end, Le Mans was my first real experience in the wet and it didn't go badly in terms of the World Championship. So we have to think about Aragon right now, where two races await us and it will be another important challenge for the Championship. "

Fabio then went into further detail…

“At the beginning of the race I struggled with the rear tyre. Unlike Dovi and Petrucci who were very strong, even though the sensations I had with the front were good. In the early laps I tried to defend my position, trying to manage the situation, but after nine laps I was in great difficulty with the grip. I suffered a lot in these conditions, especially when exiting the corners, but what matters is that I have learned and understood a lot of things for the future ”.

Someone who surprised at Le Mans was undoubtedly Alex Marquez, who took his first podium in MotoGP…

“Alex had a great race in the wet and already in the past had shown great potential in these conditions. I think he deserved the podium and I'm very happy for him, as well as for Petrucci and Pol, who finished ahead of Dovi ”.

One positive note for Fabio is having kept Mir, a direct rival in the world championship fight, behind him…

“Joan passed me at Turn 8, then I responded. In every moment of the race I was thinking about the World Championship, trying to get ahead of him and in the end I succeeded, taking ninth place. This was one of the encouraging aspects of the weekend ”.
