MotoGP, Vinales: “Lorenzo’s test in Portimao? We’ll have another bike in the race.”

“Jorge rode with the 2019 M1, completely different from ours. I did 95 laps in the tests. I was exhausted. The GP in Barcelona? I was totally confused. Yamaha can show its potential at Le Mans.”

MotoGP: Vinales: “Lorenzo’s test in Portimao? We’ll have another bike in the race.”

There are several drivers who want to turn a new page after the last round in Barcelona. One of these is Maverick Vinales, intent on redeeming Montmelo’s boring performance, and the Yamaha rider seems really confident in view of the next challenge.

This will be a very interesting weekend,” Maverick began. “I think it could be a good track for Yamaha. In fact, we’ll have to try to start quickly, aiming to get in the front row for  qualifying Saturday.

So Maverick is confident.

When there’s grip, the Yamaha always behaves well and, in this respect, Le Mans has an asphalt with a lot of grip. Last year, I was really fast in the FP1 and FP2. We’ll, therefore, have to understand the sensations before Sunday. As we all know, there’s a chance of rain, but the 2020 M1 is much more competitive in wet conditions than last year.”

Maverick also boasts a victory in the premier class in France.

I know how to behave here and what to do to be fast. I think this weekend can be a good challenge to face.

Meanwhile, the Spanish rider tested in Portimao this week with the R1, while Jorge Lorenzo rode the 2019 M1.

Riding in Portimao with a road bike is completely different than using a MotoGP. But today was useful in understanding some aspects of the track, such as the start, which includes ups and downs. Lorenzo rode with the 2019 bike but, when we get on the track, we’ll do it with a bike that’ll be completely different from what Jorge tested with.

As was mentioned, Vinales wants to turn a new page in France after  Montmelò.

I was totally confused in Barcelona. In fact, I wanted to get back on the bike right away. I did 95 laps in Portimao with the R1.  I was exhausted.”
