MotoGP: Alberto Puig switches roles to consultant for Honda HRC in 2027

After nearly ten years at the helm of HRC in the MotoGP, Puig will take on a cross-functional role in the MotoGP, WorldSBK, and also youth development programs. The door is open for Brivio to take on the role of team manager.
ALBERTO PUIG

Alberto Puig is preparing to begin a new chapter in his long history with Honda. After nearly a decade as team manager of the official Honda HRC team in the MotoGP, he'll be taking on an advisory role within Honda Racing Corporation starting in 2027.

HRC will, therefore, continue to draw on Puig's expertise, since he's been a presene in the MotoGP paddock for nearly forty years. The 59-year-old from Barcelona was appointed team manager of the official Honda team in 2018, and, under his leadership, the team secured two consecutive triple crowns with Marc Marquez.

In his new role, Puig will work alongside Honda HRC's management and staff on various activities related to the world of motorcycle racing. His contributions will encompass both youth rider development programs and support for Honda’s racing activities in the MotoGP and WorldSBK championships, with a broader focus on assessing the Japanese brand’s racing strategies and operations.

I first set foot in the World Championship paddock in 1987, and, since then, I’ve been a rider, worked with young riders, served as a rider manager and team manager, always with Honda,” Puig said. “During this time, I’ve experienced many moments, both positive and negative, which have given me valuable insights into how to work with riders, with people, and in different situations.

He then explained the purpose of his new role. It's been a life dedicated to leadership, and now I feel that my skills are better suited to a broader perspective. I look forward to leveraging my experience in this new role to help Honda HRC, its riders, and its staff grow and tackle all the challenges and successes that racing has in store.”

The press release doesn't currently indicate who'll be taking his place as team manager of the official Honda HRC Castrol team. However, for several days now, rumors have been reported by our colleagues at SKY that the role will be given to Davide Brivio, and discussions regarding this have been fueling in the paddock. Maybe a second press release will be issued shortly to confirm this speculation.
