Martin's fifth place in the Sprint at Buriram was under review for a few hours. The Spaniard was under investigation for having the front tyre pressure below the minimum limit. However, after technical checks, his position was confirmed: "The pressure was correct at the start of the race, and it was proven that the reduction was caused by a loss of air from the rim," was the verdict. Jorge can therefore celebrate this good result on his return to racing after last year's injury in Japan.
"I'm happy, I finished 5th but maybe I could have done better," he explained. "Because of that problem, I let Ogura pass because I saw the pressure warning light on, otherwise I could have fought with him. I'm optimistic for tomorrow, I think I can stay closer to the leaders. Today I had pace, but I wasn't able to take advantage of it."
Despite being forced to miss testing at Sepang, Martin already seems comfortable on the Aprilia.
"The bike works very well, I just had a strange feeling with the front wheel," he continued. "At one point I was catching up with Raul, but on the next lap he started to close the gap. It's part of the process, I'm happy with my consistency. We've seen that it's easy to make mistakes, so I'm taking it slowly to finish the races and do laps."
He preferred not to comment too much on the incident involving Marquez and Acosta.
"I enjoyed myself on the bike, every lap they were overtaking each other and I was catching up," he smiled. "As for the decision, these are things we can't control and we have to accept. I can't say much else, it just happens sometimes to one and sometimes to the other."
In some ways, it might remind you of a pass that Bastianini made on Martin at Misano in 2024. The Spaniard, however, disagreed: "Enea's was a maneuver at the limit and he should have been penalized, but everyone has their own opinion."
The Sprint is now in the books, and Jorge was also able to test his physical condition.
"I had no problems throughout the race," he assured us. "Physically, I took another step forward today, and I hope to take another one tomorrow and, above all, in the future. It will be important to finish the race because it will be training for Brazil and Austin, to understand more. I still have room for improvement on the bike; it's just a matter of time."
