A few days ago it was KTM that laid the first on-track foundations for 2027 by lapping at Jerez de La Frontera with Pol Espargaro riding the bike of the technical revolution, that is, the one that will see MotoGP engines drop from 1000 to 850 cc.
Now, however, it's Honda's turn. Next Wednesday, the Japanese manufacturer will be busy in Malaysia testing the Pirellis that will debut in the top category, taking the place of Michelin, in 2027.
Two days will be available to the test team headed by Takaaki Nakagami considering that the other test rider, Aleix Espargaro, has been entrusted, at least at this early stage, to continue with the development of the 2026.
According to what we have learnt from Motorsport.com, the RC214V (?) that we will see in action will be precisely the prototype version with less aerodynamics and no lowering device to simulate the situation that will be experienced in 2027.
As for the tyres, for the moment only Honda and KTM have accepted Pirelli's invitation to work right away on the new product, while the rest of the teams will start to think about it from February onwards, before carrying out the two tests already scheduled for this purpose next June and then again in September.
It should be noted that the SBK team will also be present at the Malaysian track, in all likelihood with the British rider Ryan Vickers in consideration of the fact that Jonathan Rea is still recovering from the recent injury suffered at Jerez, at the last round of the season and in his career among the production derived bikes.
