Jorge Martin will have to serve a Double Long Lap penalty in the Valencia Grand Prix. The accident he caused at the first corner in the Motegi Sprint was still under investigation because the Stewards, led by Simon Crafar, had decided to talk to the rider before making a decision. The world champion, however, wasn't racing because of a shoulder injury.
They finally were able to speak with Martinthis morning and decided to penalize him for irresponsible riding, causing the accident in which his teammate Bezzecchi became involved. The Stewards explained that causing an accident at the start of or on the opening lap is particularly dangerous and, in cases like this, the expected penalty is that of a Double Long Lap, since it was a first offence.
