From one master of sports to another. Fabio Quartararo, a former MotoGP world champion with Yamaha, has been treasuring his experience in Formula 1 by stealing a few secrets from Ferrari. In June, the Andorra-based Frenchman visited the Barcelona GP not as a mere spectator, but by getting into the backstage of the Maranello team: listening to briefings and communications between the pits and drivers, he picked up some useful insights to improve his team's processes, while being aware of the differences between the two worlds.
Meetings and details: the "lessons" of Hamilton and Leclerc
"In F1 there is much more to discuss, especially about tyres," Quartararo explained to Speedweek. "They have four wide tyres always in contact with the asphalt, we only have two with a very small surface. But tyres are also crucial for us, and the more information we have, the better."
After Barcelona, the driver convened his team to review working methods, "We now hold meetings in the meeting room with a screen to better analyze the data. Before, everything was more improvised." No revolutions, just progressive adjustments: "We cannot change everything overnight, but step by step we are improving. It was interesting to hear what Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc discuss with the engineers: so many details that make a difference."
