MotoGP, Pol Espargaró: "What weighs on Bagnaia is having non-official riders in front of him."

"It can happen to be beaten by one's boxmate, but by satellite riders like Alex Marquez or Morbidelli is not so tolerable. Having Marc for an ally makes things easier for Alex, they will go up and up throughout the season."

The spectacle offered by the first two MotoGP rounds, in Thailand and Argentina, followed a very similar script, with the two brothers Marc and Alex Marquez dominating the scene and Francesco Bagnaia in the background of their struggle. The new Ducati and the already broken-in GP24 are enhancing the talents of the two Spaniards, while the rider from Piedmont is struggling to regain the feeling of last season, so much so that he is contemplating a return to last year's bike in the next round in Texas. With the goal of trying to get back to fighting for the positions he is accustomed to, after achieving three thirds and one fourth place in the four races so far.

At the end of the Argentine GP, KTM test rider Pol Espargaró analyzed the difficult situation experienced by Bagnaia this early in the season, pointing out that Pecco's big problem is not so much losing the confrontation with his teammate, but being beaten by Ducati satellite riders.

"I saw Pecco coming out of the pit garage and his face was not very friendly. He is undoubtedly having problems, because to be overtaken by your teammate, to be beaten ... Obviously it can happen with your own bike and your own team. It can happen if the start is wrong, and even more so if your teammate is Marc Marquez. But to be beaten by satellite riders like Alex Marquez or Franco Morbidelli is not so tolerable," the former rider told DAZN.

"What I mean is that the leading teams of each brand have to prove that they have the best bikes and that red, in the end, prevails over the other colors," Espargaró continued. "In this case, I think that what is costing Pecco more, and I would bet a lot on that, is not the fact that Marc is beating him, but the fact that other riders with bikes that are not 100 percent official - they look very similar, they are never the same - are ahead of him. And that's hard to digest."

While Bagnaia is in a very uncomfortable situation, the Marquez brothers are in the best possible condition, finding themselves fighting each other for wins.

"In Alex's case, having as an ally Marc Marquez, who is the most in-form rider at the moment, the leader of the championship, makes things easier for you," Pol noted. "They will battle each other in the race, but also outside of it, training, sparring and preparing on things he lacks. But when Alex says he has deficiencies compared to Marc, he can also make up for them in some way and prepare for the final stages of the race. So, I think the duo will go 'up' throughout the season."
