He was the surprise of the Thailand weekend thanks to a solid performance and a speed he immediately achieved despite being a rookie. But, in Argentina, his lack of experience caught up with him. Ai Ogura wasn't able to replicate the brilliance of his first ride on a MotoGP bike. The Trackhouse rider was forced to start at the back and had to settle for a 15th place in the Sprint Race.
"At the start, I made a mistake with the clutch and set up the first two or three corners wrong. Anyway, it's best that it happened to me on Saturday," he admitted. "Overall, it was a race in which I learned a lot from my colleagues. Those I overtook because they were slower than me in some sections, proved to be faster in others, so it was nice to be able to watch them closely. Finding ways to gain positions isn't easy when coming from another category, especially in the first few corners. So, hopefully, I'll do better in the GP. In Buriram, I had more fun, because I was up in front, but this was a different kind of race."
It went even worse for Somkiat Chantra. While his teammate, Johann Zarco, crossed the finish line in 4th place, he didn't get beyond 17th.
"At the beginning, I managed to keep up with the group ahead of me. But, in the last seven laps, I made a mistake and lost ground. By the time I tried to close the gap, they had gotten away. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I'll have to improve in that respect in Sunday's race. On this occasion, I realized that pushing leads to making mistakes sometimes, so I'll have to try to be calmer and cleaner in the trajectories, also because I noticed that the lap times are improving," the LCR rider said, analyzing the situation.
Finally, it was also a difficult day for Fermin Aldeguer. He felt guilty about the accident with Oliveira but aware of his potential. "I felt great. In the morning, I had even managed to make progress, and I almost got into the Q2," he commented. "I think we'll have to work more on the time attack because starting up in front changes everything. I apologize to Miguel and the Prima Pramac team for having touched him, but I didn't do it on purpose. From that moment, I just tried to overtake as fast as possible to recuperate positions. Overall, my pace was good, since I lapped on a 1'38"4, 1'38"5. Without the accident, we could've been fighting for the top seventh or eighth. On Sunday, I'll have a Long Lap Penalty, but that's normal, since I was the one who hit the Yamaha. How much will it cost me? I don't know, because I'll try the stretch during the warm-up. The goal is to do it quickly and reach the top positions as soon as possible," the Spanish rider concluded.
