It is not a happy moment for KTM, and the Argentina Sprint confirmed this. Acosta was the best placed rider with a 9th place finish, losing one position on the final stages to Joan Mir. The real problem is that ahead of the first KTM are not the Ducatis, but also Aprilia and Honda.
"There are a lot of things that are difficult to understand," Pedro brooded, "In the end it is what it is, we have to try to have more traction and put more power on the ground because ours is perhaps the bike with which it is easier to lose the rear in the worst moments. So, we start losing time because the wheel keeps slipping. I still finished the race and got a point."
The Spaniard did not seem too confident for tomorrow's GP.
"Normally I suffer more at the beginning of the race, while today I had a good start and was going well in the first laps, I didn't lose positions. Let's see what will happen tomorrow, but we have to analyze many things," he explained.
Losing in the direct confrontation with Honda was not a nice surprise.
"They are doing a good job since the winter, maybe they are the ones who have made the biggest step forward among all the manufacturers," Acosta noted, "Zarco is fast, this is a circuit he likes, but he was also competitive in testing and in Thailand. I was behind both him and Mir and they were not going bad at all, we need to improve as well."
Brad Binder, on the other hand, did not even see the finish line. He ended up on the ground after a collision with Morbidelli, but the South African did not make any controversy, dismissing the incident as a simple race incident.
"A shorter race than I would have liked. I got an average start and going into Turn 7, I went up the inside of Frankie , then on the cutback I obviously didn't know he was there next to me. We had some contact and the second we touched I lost the front. Definitely not ideal, but that's part of the game, because when you're looking in one direction it can happen that you don't see the other rider. That's what happened, it was a racing accident," was his explanation.
As for the RC16's problems, he is aligned with his teammate.
"I didn't do a perfect job in qualifying, I left a couple of tenths behind. Then, in the race, we had traction problems and lost performance," was his analysis.
