Even if they're far from miracles and sudden reversals of the forces on the field, the technical concessions have allowed Yamaha to move closer to the top group, and the winter tests were proof of that. Despite the signs of an evident recovery, Fabio Quartararo preferred a cautious approach to the first weekend of the season.
"I think at least five races will have to pass to understand where we're at," he said. "Here, most every manufacturer has been fast while, among the riders, Marquez has stood out. Clearly Ducati is the strongest, but I prefer to think about us and our data rather than look at others. The tests are another thing. In any case, we're better off than we were in 2024. Last year, we ended the winter eleventh and fourteenth, this time definitely ahead, but I don't want to make predictions. What am I going to focus on? On the front, because I had problems like never before in the tests here in Buriram. We'll see if, on this occasion, the sensations will be different."
Satisfied with his start of the 2025 championship, Alex Rins confessed that he felt more comfortable on the bike. "Our goal was to improve the set-up, and we did it. We tried different configurations and suspensions, and I'm happy with the work done. Now I can't wait to get going because the approach in a race weekend is different from the tests," the Spanish rider claimed.
Speaking specifically about the changes made on the M1s, he then explained, "Now we have more grip in exiting, but there's still room for improvement, especially at the rear in terms of stability and on the front for the electronics. Having four opinions is proving to be helpful. For now, we get along well, and being able to share opinions is helpful for development."
Miller says it's the best bike he's ever ridden in corner entry, while El Diablo complained about the front. The question is where does the truth lie? "On both sides. On the first day of testing in Thailand, Fabio struggled with the front, but the data showed how he brakes late and hard. In general, this bike brakes very well with the front, so Jack is also right. I noticed it from the first time I got on it," he confided.
However, there are still some concerns about distance. "So far, we've struggled with the new tire and haven't been able to benefit from the grip as much as we would've liked. We'll see how it goes over the weekend and how the electronics respond, but we have a good base and we just need to focus on small progresses," he concluded.
