In the end, Maverick Viñales preferred to not take risks and return to the pits after only about ten laps. In an already black weekend for Aprilia, the ending was even worse, with a lot of regret from the Spanish rider, who didn't hide his surprise at this overall drop in performance.
"The tires weren't working, or maybe it was the bike that wasn't allowing them to behave properly. It was like being on ice. I kept losing the rear. After four or six highsides, I went back to the pit lane because there was no point in continuing. The problems were mainly because of the rear tire, but I noticed that the front was also completely destroyed. It was a difficult weekend. I think Aprilia has to figure out what's happening, because it seems to be very sensitive in these conditions, from a grip point of view," the Iberian rider stated, critical of the type of tires Michelin brought to Aragon.
"For us, they turned out to be very hard compounds, especially the medium ones, which were like rocks. I couldn't ride today, and I was lapping on 1'52". We were the only ones with these critical issues. It's a pity because we had a good Friday, but then it deteriorated. It's hard to accept such a day after the good results we had so far. Reacting is going to be important, but I have no explanation for now. The new asphalt? Disastrous. Very dirty, especially in exiting," he continued.
He was then asked about the incident between Bagnaia and Marquez: "It seemed like a race incident to me. Alex went wide, Pecco was in the trajectory, and neither one probably realized each was there, so they touched. If they hadn't hooked each other, they would've just gone straight."
