MotoGP, Quartararo: “Seeing Martin ride like that after yesterday's race is inexplicable”

“He certainly had a big problem, because he wasn’t the Martin we know. I’m happy because I got the maximum result possible.”

MotoGP: Quartararo: “Seeing Martin ride like that after yesterday's race is inexplicable”

In Sunday’s race, Fabio Quartararo finished 7th behind Alex Marquez’s Ducati. An encouraging result if we consider what the numbers were on the track, given the gap between Yamaha and the competition.

The vice world champion looked at the glass half full at the end of the Grand Prix.

“It was a positive race,” he said. “Unlike yesterday, I made a good start. Later, I managed to be faster on the pace than on Saturday, finding it easier. I think we did the best we could and, as a result, we have to be happy with our performance. Maybe I could’ve even overtaken Alex in the finale, but it was very difficult to do.”

The big disappointment on Sunday was certainly Jorge Martin, who finished in 10th place. Fabio gave his opinion regarding the Spanish rider’s performance.
“He didn’t ride like yesterday, and I honestly don’t know the reason. He suffered. He wasn’t the same Jorge as he was on Saturday, and he definitely had a big problem, because you can’t do a race like that after just twenty-four hours. When I overtook him, I wanted to be sure, because I didn’t want to be wrong. It seems to me that he suffered a lot in terms of riding, but I prefer not to judge. In fact, it’s not up to me to give an answer on the matter.”

In all this, Fabio looks to Valencia for the last race of the season coming up in just a week.
“I think Valencia can be a good track for us, since it has a high grip level. Today, the goal was the top five. The problem is that I started from behind and, consequently, I had to chase. If I had left later, it would’ve been possible, but this makes everything more difficult, so we’ll see in Valencia.”
