MotoGP, Gino Borsoi: “Martin fought like a world champion”

“If there’s anyone who still wants to criticize us after this weekend, come and do our job. It was Jorge’s best race in the MotoGP, but Bagnaia knows how to handle these situations.”

MotoGP: Gino Borsoi: “Martin fought like a world champion”

“We outdid  them all.” Gino Borsoi couldn't contain his happiness after Martin’s victory in the race in Thailand. The Spanish rider in the Buriram GP brought it all home and mended the disadvantage he had on Bagnaia. With three Grand Prixs left, there’s still reason to dream big, even if the team manager knows that they can’t count their chickens before they hatch.

“It was definitely an incredible weekend. He got the pole position, the track record, the sprint, and the long race,” he recalled, with understandable pride. “After the unfortunate moment in Australia, the team made no mistakes, and we took everything we could take. We’re obviously more than happy, but let’s not forget that Pecco is there, he’s strong, and he demonstrated it even today. It’ll be a hard fight, I hope, until the end because. If we take it all the way to Valencia, it’ll mean that we’ve done a good job.”

Martin had already demonstrated that he knew how to win alone, but this time he proved to be able to assert himself even in the melee.

I talked about it before with Jorge. We’re both convinced that this was his best race since he raced in the MotoGP,” Borsoi confirmed. “Because he was able to manage the tires and Binder, and stay up front, so as not to increase the temperature of the front tire. We were having problems with the rear. He struggled in the last laps, but he was very good at managing the race and closing the doors where we were suffering. He’s the one who won this race, and he did it gritting his teeth.”

And Binder didn’t give him any breaks. “I honestly thought Brad was going to break away, because I saw Jorge struggling in the last sector. Instead, he fought like a world champion, in my opinion.”

Just at the right time, because he had thrown a golden opportunity out the window in Australia by choosing the wrong rear tire.

“There are still many races, and we have to continue to confirm this speed, to manage everything well. I’m not saying anything to those who criticized us. The best way to respond was with this weekend. If they still find something to criticize, they should come do our work,” Gino had an itch to scratch.

Now they have to look at the final sprint, at those 13 points that still separate Martin from Bagnaia.

Jorge fell back. We managed to close the gap a bit, but Pecco knows how to handle these situations very well, and he’s the world champion,” the team manager emphasized. “We still have everything to prove, but we need races like these to find that speed that will help us fight.”
