MotoGP: KTM locks down Pedro Acosta: in 2024 the Spaniard will race in MotoGP

Another piece in the rider market for 2024 has taken shape and it was one of the most important and discussed ones. Pedro Acosta, in fact, will be in MotoGP next year and he will be there with KTM (or GasGas, depending on the decision in the coming weeks).

The Spanish rider is a classic example of the 'orange' nursery: raised in the Rookies Cup and then moved to the World Championship with the Ajo team, with which he won the Moto3 title on his debut in 2021, before moving on to Moto2. His contract included an option in KTM’s favour which expired on June 30th to get him up to the premier class and in Austria they are not letting him slip away.

This was stated to GPOne by the team manager of the official team Francesco Guidotti: “Acosta will remain a KTM rider, we had an option that we could enforce and clearly we did. He will be in MotoGP, but which team he will go to will be a surprise” he commented with a smile.

There are two options: the first is the KTM factory team, with the problem that both Brad Binder and Jack Miller have signed contracts for next year, so one of the two should hand over their place. The second is the GasGas team managed by Hervé Poncharal, which still has official treatment for technical support and bikes (with updated RC16s). In that case, Pol Espargarò, who had to miss the entire first part of the season due to the terrible accident in Portimao, and Augusto Fernandez would be risking their place. The Spaniard is not performing badly in his first season in MotoGP, but on paper he is the weakest rider compared to his other brand mates.

For now, we only know that Pedro Acosta will be in the premier class in 2024, to find out whether on a red or orange bike we will still have to wait.
