MotoGP: Michelin decides to bring in a different hard front tire for the Austrian GP

Michelin has decided to change the hard front tire available to riders for the Austrian Grand Prix. The reason is what happened to Oliveira last Sunday, when he was forced to retire due after two pieces of tread had detached from a tire of that type. Interviewed by GPOne, Piero Taramasso, Michelin’s Two-Wheel Racing Manager, explained that analysis is underway on the relevant tire and that the results will be communicated as soon as possible. He also told us that problems with the tire structure had been excluded.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure and for safety reasons, it has been decided to remove that tire from the options available to the riders and replace it with another hard tire. The difference between the two is that the one for the Styrian GP had an asymmetric construction, while the one that will be used for the Austrian GP will be symmetric.
