MotoGP: From nightmare to dream: the first photos of Marc Marquez in action in Portimao

Days spent promising to take it easy, without any rush, like a good schoolboy who carefully follows the teacher's advice. For Marc Marquez all he needed was to lower his helmet visor for instinct to get the better of all his good intentions. That flame that has guided him throughout his career has not died out, indeed after nine months it seems even stronger than before.

It took him just 14 laps on the asphalt (moreover wet) of Portimao to find himself the same as before, a war machine on two wheels, with the stopwatch as the only enemy. FP1 times might be high, there were some riders who preferred not to take too many risks, but all these thoughts do not take away one iota of value from the small feat that Marc produced. A little more than 4 minutes from the end of the session his name was at the top of the timesheets, at the chequered flag he had to ‘settle’ for third. So to speak…

Four thousandths faster than Pol Espargarò, four tenths faster than his brother Alex, more than 6 faster than Nakagami. The usual Marc: with the bike sliding, rearing up, kicking and he dancing on it. Like nine months ago, before the nightmare. Despite the helmet, it seemed as if we could see his smile as the RC213V climbed to the top of the Portimao rise and his front wheel pointed towards the sky. Which was now free of clouds, thanks to a sun-kissed Marc.

However things pan out, he has already won this Grand Prix…
