MotoE, A short circuit caused the fire in Jerez

The official investigations have not yet been completed, but Dorna has communicated that the high-density battery of a charging column caught fire.

Dorna issued a press release with the latest updates on the fire that destroyed the MotoE paddock in Jerez.

The details.

Although we are still waiting for the local police to finish their official investigation, the first evidence regarding the cause of the fire at the E-paddock of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup on the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto that broke out on March 14th seems to indicate a short circuit as the main cause of the accident.

The source of the short circuit has not yet been identified but, once the fire started, the high-density battery, which is part of a high-performance charger used in MotoE events, caught fire.

The bikes were not connected to the charging infrastructure at the time the fire broke out.

End of the press release.

Note: the bikes are recharged through a special column, with an incorporated battery, supplied by Enel. The battery, not the motorcycles, is connected to the power grid, in order to be recharged.
