Petrucci is acquiring a taste for staying in the top positions and on the first day of practice at the Sachsenring he managed to do just that. Eighth place in the morning and 4th in the afternoon, “But with the same time as Pedrosa, it’s beginning to be a curse” he jokes, remembering what happened to Valentino last year right here in Germany and he lost the first row.
Superstitions aside, the Italian is moving in the right direction.
“That is what I am trying to do: find confirmation and always stay with the leaders. Right now I am not obsessed with a win. The important thing is to consistently stay up front. I know that sooner or later I will find the weekend when I manage to beat them all” he explains.
On the Sachsenring he took the first step and especially with the rain he flexed his muscles.
“In the rain I am more competitive, but I would prefer a dry race - he says - We still have a lot of things to test, but the important thing is to be fast in both conditions and manage to get into the Top Ten if it rains tomorrow.”
The Ducati works well on the Saxon kart track, but there are some doubts with the tyres.
“With the resurfacing they did an excellent job and in the wet there is great grip - he explains - But I felt a drop in tyre performance after a few laps, although I would like some confirmations because in the morning the track was dirty and because of my weight and riding style, I stress the tyres a lot.”
