Lorenzo: there are too many people who can beat me here

Jorge Lorenzo is not pleased and he is not afraid to admit it: “every now and then even I get angry. I thought I would be more competitive” he smiles. At the end of the day he is in 6th place, 4 tenths behind Iannone, much better than he did in the morning.

In the first session there were some strange conditions and I didn’t push to the limit – he explains – In the afternoon I was more competitive, but I still need to find 3 or 4 tenths on my pace.

Where are you struggling?
Most of all in the last sector of the track. I’m losing one or two tenths there. That has happened to me for a few years. I can’t figure out which one is the right line.

What are the countermeasures?
Tomorrow I’ll try a different setup to see if we need to go down a different path. Then I need to ride in a different way, because if I ride the way that comes naturally to me it doesn’t work, but it isn’t simple to change your style.

Does the accident in 2013 affect you?
No, that has nothing to do with it.

Are Valentino and Marquez the goal?
Certainly, but right now there are more than two riders who can stay ahead of me in the race. Tomorrow I hope to improve so that I’ll be able to battle just with those two.”

Does seeing the Ducatis so fast worry you?
If anything it’s a relief (he laughs). Iannone will start from the back, but if he rides with this pace he could very well catch me up. It’s true that the Ducatis are fast here. It seems like the tyres Michelin brought work well with them.

Speaking of Ducati, have you already thought about your crew chief for next year?
I’m not in a hurry and I’m trying to take the right decision. One possibility is to work with Iannone’s current crew chief (Editor’s note: Marco Rigamonti). You have to choose the right person, who instils confidence in your, with whom you have good communication and also the fact that he already knows the bike and company is an important factor.
