A few seats still remain to be defined for the upcoming World Superbike season, and the most coveted one, on the front of the Independent teams, is undoubtedly that of Go Eleven's Panigale V4 R.
Called upon to look for Andrea Iannone's replacement, with whom the collaboration seems destined to end at the end of the year, Gianni Ramello's team has been looking into several different paths, including the one, which later faded away, that led to Xavi Vierge. Having put on hold also the talks with Dominique Aegerter, there is one particular idea that teases the Italian team and it is that of bringing back Lorenzo Baldassarri to the premier class of the production-based series.
A leap that the 28-year-old from Marche had already attempted without much success in 2023, when he stepped onto the GMT94 Yamaha R1. But that was an adventure that did not go according to plan for Balda, who was forced to take a step back after just one season to try to relaunch himself in World Supersport. Where he instead ran into another troubled year, marked by a divorce with the Orelac team and a wrist injury.
The bad luck and difficulties of the last two years, however, have not done anything to bring down Baldassarri, who in this 2025 season has proved that he was always that same high-level rider, capable of taking five victories in Moto2 and second place in the championship on his Supersport debut in 2022. Immediately competitive in the MotoE World Championship, in which he is in the middle of a battle for the title, Lorenzo also came to the fore in the newly created CIV Production Bike, dominating the two races he took part in with the Ducati V4 prepared by the Cecchini team, at Racing Night in Misano.
All signs that have not left indifferent the Go Eleven team, which is tempted to embark on a new gamble after the one won with Iannone. With the aim of giving Baldassarri the chance he deserves, to show all the talent and potential he failed to express with Yamaha in World Superbike.
