The Superbike rider market is about to heat up, and one of the hottest topics is undoubtedly the future of BMW. Currently, Miguel Oliveira and Danilo Petrucci have contracts set to expire on December 31, with an option in favor of the German manufacturer that must be exercised by the end of June.
The deadline was set for June 30, and, according to our sources, BMW has decided not to exercise the option to retain Petrucci for the 2027 season.
This decision, however, does not rule out Danilo remaining with the Munich-based manufacturer. The two parties might, in fact, return to the negotiating table in the coming weeks to assess the situation and discuss a possible new agreement for 2027.
After all, this first part of the season has proven to be particularly challenging for the rider from Terni, who has been dealing with injuries, crashes, and several missed test days due to rain and his less-than-optimal physical condition.
For this reason, BMW has preferred to wait and assess how the situation unfolds. With this in mind, Donington will serve as an important test to gauge which direction the parties intend to take heading into 2027.
On the other side of the garage, Miguel Oliveira’s future remains to be determined. At Misano, the Portuguese rider’s entourage reportedly explored the possibility of a move to Ducati, where a seat currently occupied by Nicolò Bulega will become available on the official Aruba team.
The Panigale is undoubtedly the most coveted bike in the paddock, but competition to ride the Rossa is fierce, and Oliveira is well aware of this.
Meanwhile, as previously reported in recent weeks, BMW is said to have set its sights on Manuel Gonzalez for 2027. The Spaniard’s priority, however, remains making the jump to MotoGP, but at the moment, the only concrete option seems to be a move to Tech3. Should this opportunity fall through, it’s not out of the question that the current Moto2 rider might look with interest toward the Superbike paddock.
