After letting the two McLarens run wild in Free Practice 1, Ferrari came out on top in the second practice session on the treacherous Baku track.
Lewis Hamilton set the best time clocking a 1'41.293 and edging out teammate Charles Leclerc by just 74 thousandths. Surprising performance from the two Mercedes cars with George Russell third almost half a second behind his compatriot in the Rossa, ahead of Andrea Antonelli, candidate to be on his way out from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer after the difficulties shown in recent months. Despite no shortage of thrills, Oliver Bearman was able to put his Haas in fifth place and finish ahead of the Red Bull of reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) showed some good momentum, ahead of Esteban Ocon (Haas) and Alex Albon (Williams). From hero to zero... in 10th position we can find Lando Norris. The Briton, who had stood out in the morning, was the protagonist in the afternoon of a kiss to the barriers at Turn 4 complete with a damaged left rear suspension that forced him to lose valuable time. No better was Oscar Piastri in twelfth, and also against the wall, in this case at Turn 15. Finally, it wasn't a particularly good day for Aston Martin with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, in 17th and 19th place, respectively.
