Luca Marini's convalescence is proceeding apace after the very bad accident he had at Suzuka, during a test ahead of a possible participation in the 8 Hours. After crashing at the first corner of the Japanese circuit, the Honda rider suffered a punctured lung, in addition to sternum and collarbone fractures.
After being a spectator at Misano of the SBK round last weekend, Luca arrived at Mugello today, where he was intercepted by the cameras of Sky TV.
"I feel very lucky to be already on the track, to be almost well, because of how my accident was," he said, "I've started training again and, in two weeks, I think I can be in a good enough shape to ride a MotoGP bike. For Assen it is realistically impossible and premature for me to get back on the bike."
Marini has no intention of waiting too long before clutching the handlebars of his RC213V again, though.
"Honda is planning a test at Brno after the Dutch GP, it could be a good opportunity to calmly get back on the bike and do a few laps and then be at 80 percent at Sachsenring," he said.
His morale, despite the bad patch he has been going through, is good.
"I tried to see it in a positive light to learn from what happened and improve as a person. I never got over the desire to get back on the bike, in fact I was already thinking about it when I was still in the hospital bed."
