The Jerez tests are over. The circuit named after Angel Nieto was chosen by a number of teams for the end this 2024 as tthey prepare for 2025. Two interesting days marked the debut of some riders and a change of colors for others.
The fastest yesterday was Deniz Oncu, who set the best time of 1'40"679 on the Pramac team's Kalex. But the real surprise of the day was another: Adrian Huertas. The reigning Supersport World Champion - who'll be racing with the Italian team next season, seems to be adapting quickly to the new category and finished in 2nd place at 0"321 from the Turkish rider.
The Jerez circuit also baptized the new Pramac Yamaha team in the Moto2. This was Tony Arbolino's and Izan Guevara's occasion to try out the Boscoscoscuro for the first time, and the first feedback was positive. The Spanish rider finished in 3rd place with a gap of just over 6 tenths, while the Italian came in 4th with an abundant gap of 7 tenths.
Among the riders who arrived from the Moto3, the best was Collin Veijer: 5th with a gap of less than 9 tenths from the top. "I think it was a productive two days," commented the Dutch rider commented. "We improved a lot on many aspects. The first morning was a bit difficult, because the bike is new, and we have to get used to it. But, during the day, we made a lot of progress, so I'm very happy with the team and the people I work with. We did a great job and started to create a good foundation for next year."
Not far behind Veijer were Holgado and Alonso: 6th and 7th respectively at 0"918 and 0"920, while Ortolà had a delay of 1"250. David took stock of his tests: "They were very positive tests. I'm going to be happy during my winter break, because now I know what the Moto2 is. It's not an easy category. We'll have to work and be consistent. I also realized that I'll have to work on my strength during the winter. You have fun with this bike. You have to look for things you didn't look for with the Moto3, and that makes riding more fun."
In the Moto3, the Ajo team pair was at the top of the standings: José Rueda made a best time of 1'44"412 and Alvaro Carpe came in behind him by 0"320. Quiles was in 3rd of Piqueras (who's getting the hang of the KTM after racing with Honda) and Odgen, while Dennis Foggia was last. He needs to find his Moto3 automatisms after two seasons in the Moto2.
"We have a good foundation, but the important thing for me was to adapt to returning to the Moto3. Jerez isn't my favorite track, but we managed to make the most of these days. I still don't feel close to the limit, but I'm going into the winter break relaxed and looking forward to the Portimao test," the rider from Rome commented.
