Jerez test - Alonso's first time in Moto2: "I had fun"

Canet was the fastest on the first day of practice. Dennis Foggia is back on the Moto3: "More difficult than the Moto2."

Moto2: Jerez test - Alonso's first time in Moto2:

If the MotoGP riders started 2025 in Barcelona, some Moto2 and Moto3 teams decided to do so in Jerez. Unlike those in the premier class, the riders on the circuit named after Angel Nieto are private, and only a few teams decided to participate.

One of those was Aspar Martinez's: he changed all the riders in the two classes. Everyone was waiting for Moto3 World Champion David Alonso, who was making his Moto2 debut. The fastest yesterday was Aron Canet, setting the best time in 1'40"788, with Diogo Moreira (+0"279) and Alonso Lopez (+0"448) behind him. Barry Baltus reached a 4th time (on his first ride in the Fantic team colors) and Filip Salaca . who switched from Kalex to Boscoscoscuro - was 5th. Supersport Champion Adrian Hertas tested the Kalex of the Italtrans team, with 1.5 seconds from Canet.

Alonso - who was the fastest among the riders from the cadet class - was slightly slower (+1"735): "I 'm happy to have been faster on the Moto2 than my best time on the Moto3,"  the Colombian rider commented. "I had fun, without thinking about times and trying to be more dynamic on the bike because this bike moves a lot and you have to adapt."

Moto3 rival, and now Alonso's teammate, Dani Holgado was about two tenths slower than Alonso "We did a good job. I had very good feelings in my Moto2 debut, and I gradually got confident with the bike," the Spanish rider said. Closing the standings were two other rookies: Collin Veijer and Ivan Ortolà.

Instead,  Alvaro Carpe (new addition to the Ajo team) finished ahead of everyone with a time of 1'45"520. Behind him were Angel Piqueras and Maxino Quiles. The test day in Jerez also marked Dennis Foggia's return to the Moto3. The rider from Rome has to readjust to the 250 after two seasons in the Moto2, ending his day 1"810 from the best.

"It was a first day full of new things: the tires, the bike, the team. I didn't know what to expect because, if making the jump from the Moto3 to the Moto2 is difficult, it's even more difficult from the Moto2 to the Moto3. We'll have to fix small things. It's about doing laps," he explained.
