MotoGP, Bastianini: "Help Bagnaia in Barcelona? We could both do it."

"I had come to Sepang to win, and I it didn't happen. I can't be happy. It doesn't feel like a great thing to race the last GP in Spain after what happened, but I think it was the only solution."

MotoGP: Bastianini:

Bastianini's face isn't that of someone who feels like celebrating a podium. Today, against Bagnaia and Martin, there was little he could do, being the "first of the others" is already a good result, not to mention that, thanks to Marquez's mistake, now Enea is closer than ever to Marc in the championship. "I'm only one point behing, but I was hoping for something more," the Beast said, brooding. "Knowing myself, I can't be happy today. Tomorrow I'll start to see things in a different way and try to improve. We missed something. I didn't feel as at ease as I did last year, not even close."

You seem very bothered by this 3rd place.
"I was bothered by the fact that going from winning with a gap to finishing third with a gap is very different. It means we missed something. Right now, it's important to give it my all, but we obviously failed to do that today. When I can't express my full potential, I can't be happy."

What happened?
"More or less, it was like yesterday. I had similar problems. At the first start, I started out good. I was third. But, at the second start, I was fifth. However, even after overtaking Morbidelli, and with the track clear in front, I was slower than Pecco and Jorge. I didn't have good sensations, so I decided to stay calm. Then Marc fell and gave me the podium. I had come to Sepang with the goal of winning, though, and I didn't succeed."

What has changed from 12 months ago?
"With the tires, I definitely struggled more than last year, especially with the front. It's strange because, after all, the front was the same, while the rear changed a  bit. I expected more."

Bagnaia made it clear that he'll need allies in Barcelona. Would you be willing to help him?
"We could help each other!" he said, laughing. "Maybe we could help each other, maybe not. It'll depend on how the race unfolds. There are so many variables. It's definitely very difficult for both of us, because both Marc and Jorge are very fast in Barcelona. I think we could assess it there. Of course, for Pecco, with twenty-four points behind, it won't be easy to win the title. It's going to take a big mistake by Martin. It's going to be easier for me to try to get third place in the championship."

What do you think about the decision to replace Valencia with Barcelona?
"The fact that we'll be racing in Spain after what happened, I don't see it as a great thing. I don't agree with it at all. Obviously, whoever decided did it because it was the only solution, so I think we'll need to adapt."
