MotoGP, Marini: "Bastianini's overtaking move? It's not fair to push a rider off the track"

"If Martin had crashed, Enea would have been penalized. I expect the same treatment if there was another similar maneuver. We have to be satisfied with our race, we gained 3 or 4 tenths per lap."

MotoGP: Marini:

Marini, with 12th place, in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix achieved his best result since he has been racing with Honda. It was certainly a good race, but first we can't help but talk about Bastianini's overtaking move on Martin that is being (and will be) talked about for some time.

As always, Luca was very analytical and honest when offering his view: "I have only seen it once, but my opinion is that it is not fair to push another rider off the track. Surely for Pecco it is better and I am happy for him - he laughed, before getting serious again - We are going in a direction where it is more and more difficult to overtake, so I understand Enea''s difficulties, especially on this track, but if Martin had not lifted up the bike, he would have crashed. So Jorge had to sacrifice himself for Bastianini to be penalized, because if he had gone down there would have been a penalty. Martin stayed upright and Bastianini was not punished, but the maneuver doesn't change and that seems meaningless to me. I just ask that the rules be clear: if this is the case, then let them continue like this at least until the end of the season, then we can talk about it to find a better solution. If someone does the same in Indonesia, I expect the same treatment."

Having finished talking about that issue, Marini then commented on his race.

"We improved a lot compared to last weekend, the pace today was decent and to finish the race in 12th place is a very good result for us," he said contentedly, "We are still missing the first 3 laps, where we can't get the rear tire up to temperature well and I can't defend myself from attacks. We'll see if in warmer weather this problem will be less."

Monday's testing after the first GP worked.

"I felt a huge difference, this aerodynamics helps a lot. What came from Japan allowed us to make many small improvements that, put all together, gave us 3 or 4 tenths. We have to be satisfied and I think between now and the end of the year we can find another 2 tenths. We needed a good result to face the last part of the championship," he concluded.
