BMW will have two factory bikes in 2025: what about Scott Redding?

Scott has an option in his favor but, next year, the Munich-based manufacturer will be reducing the number of bikes on the track. As of today, Redding doesn't have a bike, but he's already made it known that he doesn't want to switch.

SBK: BMW will have two factory bikes in 2025: what about Scott Redding?

BMW's plans for 2025 are clear, and Marc Bongers confirmed it wtih us yesterday during an interview: "In 2025, we'll have two factory bikes in Superbike." With Bonovo exiting from the scene, the Munich-based manufacturer will, therefore, focus its efforts only on Toprak and van der Mark while Redding's and Gerloff's future is likely to be a big question mark.

Or rather, on paper, the only question mark is the one related to Gerloff, considering that his contract expires at the end of the season and, as a result, he'll then have to find a bike for next year. But, as far as Redding is concerned, the matter is different because Scott has an option in his favor for the upcoming year as well.

Therefore, should he want to enforce his option, the Munich manufacturer will have to honor the contract until the end of 2025, considering that the agreement signed in 2021 between the parties was for four years.

On the subject, Scott said: "At the moment, I don't have a clear idea about my future," he said. "I have a contract for another year with BMW but, with Bonovo's retirement, I don't know what could happen. However, I'd like to continue riding for BMW, because I believe in this project, and I think it's a winning one. So, I hope that I'll have an M 1000 RR in 2025, as well."

Redding has already made it clear that he has no intention of leaving prematurely. Now the ball is in BMW's court, and they'll have to decide what to do with its rider. The most viable route is for Scott to be used as a reserve rider or diverted to other championships, like what was done in the past with Tom Sykes. Or else they'll have to get around a table and find an agreement between the parties to arrive at a consensual termination of the contract.

The last viable route is for some team to decide to marry the BMW project, taking over from Bonovo, but having to settle for unofficial treatment. At present, however, no one has gone knocking on Bongers' door for 2025.
