With the warning and increasing penalties of 3, 6, and 9 seconds per infractions abolished, riders and teams will no longer be able to mess around with their tire pressure this year. While it won't result in a disqualification that everyone feared in the winter, every transgression will still will equal a penalty of 16 seconds in the Grand Prixs and 8 seconds in the Sprint Races. Steep penalties that Ducati will try to avoid through a new monitoring system provided to all of its riders which tallies laps completed within regulation limits.
In fact, in order not to incur in a post-race penalty, riders will have to comply with new pressure parameters this season, provided by Michelin: 1.80 bar on the front and 1.68 bar on the rear, for 60% in Sunday's race and 30% on Saturday. A good number of laps, which can be easily counted by the Borgo Panigale riders through the counter installed on all GP24 and GP23 bikes on the grid.
A tried and true countdown, as our colleagues at Motosan explain, thanks to which the Ducati riders will be able to set up their races more easily, always fully aware of the number of rounds in which they'll have to be more cautious with regard to pressure, and those in which they'll be able to push freely, without having to worry about the tires.
