MotoGP, Bezzecchi: “Marquez on my Ducati is an opportunity to learn”

“Among the favorites, I put him in 5th place, after Bagnaia, Martin, Bastianini, and me. On Sunday, we’lll all be going to Portimão to train on the Panigale. Valentino will also be there.”

The colors and graphics changed, but Marco Bezzecchi remains the same old rider who likes to take everything lightly. Last year, he surprised everyone by finishing 2023 in 3rd place in the championship. He was the first rider who didn’t have an official bike, and expectations for him are high. “For the moment, they’re high...  just enough, because we still have to start,” he said smiling. “We’re waiting to do the tests in Malaysia but, after last year’s results, I hope to continue in this direction.

What’s your goal for this season?
Last year, I said that I hoped to win at least one race. This year, I hope to win at least two, better if they’re more. All joking aside, I definitely want to win.”

You'll definitely be lots of rivals ...
Somehow or other, there’s always competition in the MotoGP. But, this year, they’re all crazy. And so am I.”

Who are the favorites?
Pecco, because he’s the reigning world champion, then Martin, Bastianini, and me. Marc Marquez? I put it in fifth place,” he said laughing.

What does riding the same bike as Marquez mean? The GP23?
It’ll certainly be a great opportunity to learn from a very fast rider, and a great incentive to keep the competition very high.”

What did he teach you last season?
I learned so many things. When you grow a lot, it’s difficult to be specific. You only notice certain things when you repeat them in certain situations. I learned a lot of things, both on a personal and sporting level. I grew a lot in the way of working in the garage, of being a group with my team, and in being the kingmaker in difficult situations, in order to pull others along. Obviously, I was able to improve my riding a little bit as well.”

Will the Sepang tests be enough for you to have clear idea?
The tests are always to be taken with a grain of salt. The important thing will be to be focused on our work and understand where we are. We’ll see the others better in Qatar.

What was your first impression of the GP23 in Valencia?
I still have to assimilate a different way of entering corners. I understand what I have to do, but I can’t always do it naturally. The bike has a lot of potential. We saw it from last year’s results.

Your contract is ending. When will the requests on the market begin?
I think after a couple of races. It depends on how the first GPs go.”

Before Sepang, will you go to Portimão to train on the Panigale?
Next Sunday, we’ll all be there. Vale, too.
