MotoGP, Bastianini: skirmish with Marquez, “But he wasn't at his best, he wasn’t riding clean”

Enea’s recovery continues, 11th in qualifying, then 10th in the Sprint in a difficult race. “I don’t like to fight for 10th place for points. I want to go back to fighting with the best.” “Martin? He’s a fast rider. He’s been able to make good use of the circuit.”

MotoGP: Bastianini: skirmish with Marquez, “But he wasn't at his best, he wasn’t riding clean”

Enea Bastianini’s recovery period continues, but the intense calendar isn’t making it easier, with three races close together. The rider from Rimini started 11th at the end of the Q2 and, after an initial phase in which he was starting to come back in the Sprint Race, a technical problem temporarily extinguished his aspirations for better results, so he ended up finishing 10th. For now, Enea the Beast is sharpening his claws as he waits for better times, after the summer break, when he’ll hopefully return to his full potential.

I was making a good comeback,” Enea stated. “But, unfortunately, starting at mid race, there was a technical problem that sunk us. My feelings on the bike were pretty good. Obviously, that magical feeling will take a little longer to achieve. With a better qualification, the race would’ve been different. But, during the last few minutes, there were so many yellow flags, and they cancelled my fast lap.

Compared to Mugello, what did you feel?
I’m definitely better. I ride smoother. I’m happy to have arrived very fit, and I think it’ll be all downhill from now on. I feel bad about today. I could’ve done more.”

Martin dominated the Sprint Race today, taking his Ducati to the top of the race. A victory that led him to become Pecco’s main rival, but you could have been the rival.
Obviously, there are a lot of races, and this thing pisses me off,” Enea said jokingly. “But it’s something I’ve accepted. I don’t like to fight for tenth place to collect points. I want to be in excellent shape to battle it out with them again.”

Were you surprised to see Martin so superior today?
Honestly, no. He’s a rider who knows how to be fast, and this is a circuit where those up front can be effective, while those who chase are often forced to change trajectories and braking points.

You also got the chance to go up against Marc Marquez. How was that?
It was strange, but he definitely wasn’t at his best, and his bike has problems. He wasn’t in great shape, in general. He wasn’t riding clean.”
