MotoGP: Morbidelli: “The gap isn’t much, but it’s a lot in this MotoGP”

Franco Morbidelli finished the Portimão tests with a 19th time, a full second behind Pecco Bagnaia’s Ducati. The Yamaha rider spent a whole Sunday chasing, forced to watch at the top riders from afar.

But even if the situation seems critical, Morbidelli tries to remain calm and be proactive.

We had a lot of things to test, and it’ll be important to analyze the data well, in order to make the right assessments before the race. I finished these tests with a gap similar to Saturday’s, and I’m not happy. I’ll have to work to reduce it.

Morbidelli talked about aerodynamics and all the innovations.
I didn’t test the back wing. I think our aerodynamics are less sophisticated and, in some cases, it could become an advantage.

Then he tackled the falling issue.
There were several even today. Binder fell in front of me, and it was really bad to see.

In the end, he quickly takes stock.
Right now, the situation is better than last year, since I have more knowledge of the package and of my work group. The gap from the first isn’t much, but it’s a lot in this MotoGP. It’ll be interesting to find the right way to reduce the gap.”
