MotoGP: High-tension Sepang: the GP seen through the eyes of Domizia and Carola

Raise your hand if you experienced the Malaysian GP with a certain trepidation, a race in which Francesco Bagnaia came one step away from winning the MotoGP title, with his seventh success of the season. Twenty never-ending laps, in which the rider from Turin fought for the win with Enea Bastianini, after poleman Jorge Martin crashed. While Fabio Quartararo, after a short fight with Marc Marquez, made his way to the third step of the podium, trailing Marco Bezzecchi, who could do nothing against his Yamaha rival.

110.86 km of pure suffering for the Ducati Lenovo Team garage, where it was impossible not to notice the nervousness of Davide Tardozzi and Gigi Dall’Igna. As well as the tension of two women in Pecco's life: his companion Domizia and sister Carola, sitting side by side in the garage of # 63.

"We didn't watch the race - Carola and I are now a combo - Domizia told us at the end of the GP - We have our chairs arranged close together: she keeps the times ahead of us and we look at those, sector by sector, lap by lap, and so we feel better. Except for the fact that today there was a super-charged audience, so they were screaming left and right and it really scared us. But we survived ”.

No doubt about what was the worst moment of the race: “When he overtook Bastianini, because they all started screaming. We weren't looking at the images, so we didn't understand what was going on. But that's fine. It couldn't have gone better ”.

Even though something in the background at the beginning of the race made them fear the worst. “Domizia made me laugh that she was worried because Pecco always does everything the same way: he never leaves the grid, but today it was hot and he went back to the garage - Carola reveals - This was not expected. He did it in Indonesia and it didn't go well ..." the girls, who could finally catch their breath, joked.

Now their thoughts turn to Valencia

After the Malaysian Grand Prix and with a 23-point lead over El Diablo, Pecco is one step away from the title. But it must be admitted that Bezzecchi catching up with Quartararo had kept alive the dream that the battle could have already been over at Sepang.

"Yes, there was always that hope - admits Carola - but in the end we know that Fabio is a phenomenon and therefore he deserves it too".

But how did Francesco experience the eve of this very important GP?

“He always seeks serenity. This morning he began to feel a little more tension and I would say that he is more than human - says Domizia - While he was changing, we started talking about something else. About flights, airports, checks, obviously to try to ease the tension. I don't think it worked, but he's pretty good at managing it ”.

The decisive step will now be Valencia, the last round of the season which will take place on November 6th. "Fortunately, since there is a free week in between, he has time to rest, reset his mind, understand the potential he has in Valencia and realize what actually awaits him – commented Domizia - But, in my opinion, a bit of a break - home, dog, family - is good ".

In Spain, more than ever, the support of the Borgo Panigale team will be all for Pecco, with the two girls ready in position: “As all season. Never change a winning team!" were the words of Carola Bagnaia.
