Dovizioso has already been seen in the area of Petronas at Aragon, after Andrea did a recce in the team in which he will race starting from Misano, paired with Valentino. An unprecedented and interesting duo, with the two protagonists of many battles in the past reunited under the same banner.
“It will be a good team with me and Dovi, two Italians with a lot of experience. We also have a good relationship” commented Rossi satisfied.
Have you managed to talk to him yet?
“We haven't met yet, but I'm very curious to see how he will go on the Yamaha and what he will say about the M1, which is certainly very different from the Ducati. It would have been nice to be together again next year, but I will retire (laughs) ”.
With the arrival of Dovizioso in Petronas, Morbidelli will join the factory team. How is his recovery going?
“Franco and Carlo (Casabianca, VR46’s athletic trainer, ed.) are fighting against time. It was a very serious operation and a tough rehabilitation. I saw Franco suffer a lot, but now he is better and he will try to return for Misano, I hope everything goes well ”.
Before the home race, you need to think about Aragon.
"A particular track, not one of the best for me and last year I didn't race there because I had Covid. I will try to have good sensations, we will find different conditions than in the past because it looks like it will be very hot ”.
It is a track that puts the rear tire in crisis, at Silverstone you had problems in that sense, like Bagnaia.
“The situation was stranger for Pecco, because he was fast all weekend except in the race. My problem is a bit worse, in recent years I have suffered a lot with the tires, which are too soft for me. At Silverstone I needed to race hard, but it was too cold, it wouldn't work, and I was forced to choose the medium. I was in trouble after a few laps, but I didn't ask Michelin for anything because we have to find a solution. It seems that from next year the tires will change a bit, but unfortunately it will be too late for me (laughs) ".
There are 6 races to go until the end of the championship, how do you see them?
"I will try to the last to obtain good results. Aragon and Valencia are historically the most difficult for me, but there will be two in Misano where I usually go fast. Then Austin, which I like, and Portimao, where I've been quite fast this year. All this on paper, then it will be necessary to see what the reality will be ”.
Will this Aragon race be an important one for Quartararo too?
“It will be a lot, because on paper it is not a favourable circuit for the Yamaha, we usually suffer from a tire drop. Being competitive here will be very important for his championship ”.
