MotoGP: Spain agrees: Vinales will leave Yamaha for Aprilia

The Spanish press agrees: at the end of the season, Maverick Vinales will leave Yamaha. They wrote it very clearly, first in AS and then Marca.

The source is probably the same or, more likely, one copied the other, since the news was reported almost at the same time.

According to the two newspapers – for which two colleagues, who we regard really highly, write – not only is Maverick leaving Yamaha, but he’ll be going to Aprilia!

However, there’s no mention of penalties: Yamaha is happy to terminate the contract, and they’ll even save a lot of money doing so, since they’re tired of having a rider in their garage who has changed three crew chiefs.

We have no doubts about the fact that they’re both tired of the situation, but... that this sensational change of teams is going to happen, is another matter. Yet, the indiscretion has to be reported, because it would end up being a sensational and unprecedented breakup, kind of like the divorce with Eddie Lawson who, after winning the world title in 1988, went to Honda. But that happened at the end of the year and his contract had already expired.
