MotoGP: Zarco's debut: only Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Marquez better than him

What a season start for Johann Zarco! In the space of just five races, he's shown us all his real potential. Right now, he's lying fifth in the championship, meaning he's currently the best-placed rookie, ahead of Folger. Let's take a closer look at the numbers.

- Among the satellite teams' riders, the Frenchman has proved to be the strongest so far this season, lying 15 points ahead of Cal Crutchlow.

- After Jean-Philipp Ruggia, he's the first Frenchman to finish top five on four occasions in the reigning class

- From 2002 until now, only four rookies have scored more points than Zarco. In order, Pedrosa and Stoner in 2006, Lorenzo in 2008 and Marquez in 2013

- Aside from Zarco, the only rookies to have reached the podium within the first five races have been Kato, Bayliss, Pedrosa, Stoner, Lorenzo, Spies and Marquez. Among these, Kato, Stoner and Spies were with privateer teams.

- Zarco is the third Frenchman to have achieved a MotoGP podium after Olivier Jacque and Randy De Puniet.

- A Frenchman hadn't finished a race in second place since Motegi 2007. On that occasion it was De Puniet to do so. In 2009, De Puniet scored a third place at Donington.

 - Not since 1988 had a French rider reached the podium in the reigning class at his home race. The last to do so was Christian Sarron in 1998 at Paul Ricard.

- Since Sarron, Zarco is the first Frenchman to finish top five on four consecutive occasions.
