Moto3: Toughened penalty for David Munoz: he will start from the pitlane in Argentina

It 's all uphill for David Munoz's Argentine GP, after his contact with Luca Lunetta in the Moto3 race. The Spaniard of the Intact GP team was initially sanctioned by the Stewards Panel with a Long Lap Penalty for sending the Roman rider into the gravel in Turn 11 under a yellow flag while they were fighting for the top positions.

Munoz, however, failed to serve the penalty during the GP, as his race ended with a crash in Turn 3 shortly after the measure was served. The Stewards Panel chaired by Simon Crafar has therefore decided to review the incriminating incident and also impose on the 18-year-old a pitlane start in the next Grand Prix.

"The Stewards Panel further reviewed the incident after the race and considered the exceptionally high risk to marshals who were placed in danger following the contact, which caused the #58 to run deep into the run-off area," the Stewards explained , "Under Article 3.2.2 of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations, given the exaggerated risk caused, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel further impose a pitlane start penalty to be seerved by the rider #64, in the next Grand Prix race of the Championship."

However, the 18-year-old Andalusian will not be the only rider to have to serve a penalty in the next Moto3 race. Joel Kelso was in fact sanctioned with a double Long Lap Penalty for the incident with Angel Piqueras in Turn 12, which ended his race and prevented the Spaniard from fighting for the podium.
