Jake Dixon honored his father, Darren, a two-time world champion in sidecars in 1995 and 1996. Darren after starting out competing in sidecars moved on to compete in singles racing, managing to win the title in the 1988 British Superbike Championship and made his motorcycle racing debut at the 1988 British Motorcycle Grand Prix that ended in retirement. This season he also finished tenth, winning one race, in the European 500 Class Championship.
