After the first 9 Grand Prix this season, Honda has scored just 24 points, half that of Yamaha. The numbers do not lie and the crisis of the Japanese manufacturer is evident. Despite the efforts made, the results are slow in coming and Alberto Puig, at the microphones of motogp.com, did not hide the difficulties.
"It's not easy, we're not where we want to be. We're trying to get there, but we're still far away from our standard position," he admitted, "OK, this is how it is now, we're fighting, trying to catch up, trying many different solutions, but it's clear that the lap times are still not there and we know it."
Honda needs to react, though.
"We are trying to do as much as possible in the shortest time possible," the team manager continued, "We are trying to use the concessions, and using the test team a lot, but still we need to make steps. We have to improve the bike, that's the point, we know what we're missing, but still we haven't been able to solve the problems yet, we're still not 100 percent sure how to fix them."
At certain times you can't afford to get discouraged, but you have to keep pushing. Honda has a plan for the remaining GPs in 2024.
"We have to be confident, if not we should go home - were Puig's words - We are not sleeping and we are trying and for the second part of the year we will try to bring some new components. We already planned at the beginning of the year that the second part of the year we would have different things to try, not small things but bigger things. To which level we improve it is not clear yet but we should make some improvements."
