SBK, Montella ready for switch to Superbike, Barni plans to double in 2025

Marco Barnabò is considering fielding two Ducati V4s at the start of next season's World SBK season, with a fast-growing Yari to partner up with Danilo Petrucci.

SBK: Montella ready for switch to Superbike, Barni plans to double in 2025

After flourishing in 2023, Yari Montella has gone to the next level in the World Supersport this year, bringing the Barni Spark Racing team's Ducati Panigale V2 to competing steadily at the top of the championship. Among the big favorites for the 2024 title since the start, the rider from Campania confirmed the predictions right from the first Round on the calendar, hitting the target on his the Ducati at the Phillip Island track. The very track on which he had won his first victory in the SSP in 2022, his debut year in the World Championship.

A triumphant start, but the 24-year-old rider was still calm and concentrated, always keeping his feet firmly planted on the ground and trying to maximize his result with foresight, without letting himself be conditioned by unforeseen events, like those that happened during the crazy Assen weekend, when he saved what could be saved with a splendid comeback in Race 2, after a complex qualification and a technical problem that ousted him at the start.

These are all signs of how Montella has greatly matured during these three years, and now seems ready to take another step forward and make his debut in Superbike.

"For me, Yari has made a huge leap as a rider between last year and this year, and he's showing that he's solid, fast, and able to manage races. I see him that he's mature the jump in  category," his manager, Simone Battistella, told us. This confirms the possibility that the rider from Campania will be present at the start of the SBK premier class as early as 2025.

In fact, it seems like Barni team owner Marco Barnabò is considering the idea of fielding a second Ducati Panigale V4R next year, precisely to partner Montella with Danilo Petrucci. A bike with which the rider from Salerno is already starting to become familiar with in the two wild-card rides in Rijeka, during the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship, scoring three wins out of four races and the new Croatian track record.
