This could be Aleix's last Grand Prix at his home circuit. 'The Captain' ready to take Aprilia test rider role and pushes for friend Jorge in his place

MotoGP: Last show for Espargaro in Barcelona, and Martin is set to replace him

Marquez is betting on him for the Barcelona GP and certainly Aleix Espargarò who was born just a stone's throw from the circuit, in Granollers, will not miss the chance to repeat his 2023 success.

The Aprilia 'Captain', if you remember, scored an extraordinary double, with teammate Maverick Viñales accompanying him on the podium as second in the race and third in Saturday's sprint.

Undoubtedly, the RS-GP is fast on this track and Aleix has great memories...and some regrets, like the one in 2022 when he closed the throttle a lap early and missed the podium.

He will have glitter in 'the Captain's' eyes on Sunday night because, come what may, this might be his last Grand Prix on his home circuit. A last show if it's true (as it may be) that the eldest of the Espargarò brothers has already decided to retire at the end of the season to imitate his brother Pol, now a KTM test rider, and fill the same role for the Noale-based manufacturer.

Perhaps that is why Aleix is stalling, perhaps also to keep the seat warm for his great friend Jorge Martin, who is often with him, in training or on the road.

With Ducati about to decide who will be the rider to flank Bagnaia in 2025, undecided between Jorge, Marc and Enea, should the decision not turn in his favor in fact Martinator will be looking for an official home, and what better destination than the team of his best friend?

This photo seems to prophesy the future, which is perhaps why Massimo Rivola is pulling petals off a daisy.
